Clean Air Counts Award
Orland Park has earned a Silver level award from Clean Air Counts, a northeastern Illinois regional initiative to reduce ozone-causing emissions and improve air quality.
The award took into account the village’s recent Earth Day event on April 22nd where residents received energy saving Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFLs) and environmental brochures in a reusable grocery bag and were able to inspect hybrid vehicles on display outside of Village Hall.
Other efforts that were considered include the gas can exchange (to reduce greenhouse gas emissions) and village policies to purchase low Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) paints, energy star rated office equipment, light fixtures, and lights. Additional bike paths constructed in the village, landscape codes that promote the use of native plants and the dissemination of environmental information were also considered as part of the award.
Trustee Kathleen Fenton accepts the Bronze Award on behalf of the Village last year.
